Frequently Asked Questions
Materials: We use coated Guard Dog fencing screws, not nails.
We use two bags of concrete for each post which is planted two feet deep.
We use only premium cedar for all cedar fences, this means that any material not up to our standards will be returned to our supplier and replaced as we install.
For all six-foot high privacy fences, we use only #1 grade cedar pickets, the highest grade available.
Payment: No down payment is accepted. Payment is normally by check upon job completion.
A charge of 3.7% is added for credit card payments.
Sales tax is already included in the cost of materials.
Removal and disposal of existing fence is included in all quotes.
Occasionally, if there is excessive tree or bush trimming needed there will be an additional charge, but I will tell you this at the time of the quote.
We offset the new fence posts on most fence lines except at corner and gate locations where the post position needs to be exactly the same. This means the old concrete remains in the ground.
Timing: Nearly all jobs of 250 linear feet are completed in one day unless winter weather interrupts.
Warranty: Please remember that because fences are out in the elements -- wind, sun, rain, snow, freezing temperatures, falling limbs, kids, dogs and drunk drivers can damage fences. For this reason, we don’t have a written warranty, but we believe that by building a quality fence with the best materials available we can say that your fence is built to last for 20 plus years. We will come back to adjust a gate after settling, which is normal. About 99% of the calls we get for follow-up are because of a gate settling a bit due to weather or foundation issues.
For staining: We refer to Michael Kuhn at 970-308-4704. He has stained hundreds of fences for our customers and has a very fair price. We recommend staining your fence soon after installation. Stain provides protection from UV rays, water damage and adds a bit of color for a completed look. If you choose to stain the fence yourself, five gallons of Messmer’s natural cedar stain will be enough to cover about 100 feet of six-foot privacy fence on both sides.
Utility locates: We call 811 for utility locates on every job. Remember that multiple utility locators will show up (electric, gas, cable, phone and fiber optic, water). On rare occasions, if you have a rural electric company such as PVREA be aware that they do not locate electric lines from their meter/pedestal to the house so you may need to have a private locating company mark your electric lines to avoid potential damage. Remember that utility locators don’t mark sprinkler systems.
Sprinkler systems: We obviously will do our best not to damage your sprinkler lines, but occasionally we will hit a zone line. If we know that we hit something, we will always tell you and many times we will fix it, especially if it is a simple black non-pressurized zone line. Sometimes that is not possible due to it being a pressurized PVC main supply line or a zone line that runs under an entire fence line. If you have concerns about our policy on these or other issues, please ask me, but the most common answer is that we will fix it if we can unless it’s many hits on the same fence line because your line is directly under the location of your new fence in which case we can refer a sprinkler repairman.
Weather permitting, we work year-round except in extreme cold, active precipitation, high wind or excessive mud.
